🔥🔥🔥 A big kiln load of whales got dropped off today! The studio I fire at is so wonderful and when I asked "do you think we can get it all glazed and done by the 5th?" they said: Probably yea! So fingers crossed and pray to the kiln gods because if we can they'll all be available at my next market! 🙏

Venturing into uncharted plate territory, I (again) underestimated dragonfruit's difficulty. Plate-making didn't go as planned, but I'll give it another shot with a more robust clay to learn the form before breaking out the good clay. How many times do I need to make this mistake before I will learn? Its just so pretty I cant help myself 😭❤️

It's nice that there are 80 million episodes and it will keep playing without me needing to press any buttons while my hands are covered in clay. 🐈Jujubee is in training to become an adventure kitty, and one of the skills im training her in is how to jump up into her backpack if she feels scared. When we're training, I'm usually wearing a nice thick sweater or the backpack itself to protect me from her claws, but she obviously still has some work to do on when to use this new skill!

Many of you probably dont know that my day job is in conservation. I get to spend my days working to protect 73 killer whales that we know individually by name. That would have been inconceivable before Jane Goodall, and her work paved the way for conservation projects like mine to exist today 💙.

🫖 I started this orangutan teapot two days ago, and it feels serendipitously relevant now as a small tribute to the incredible woman who changed the world 🌎

...and yes, the arm is the spout.

I am so excited for these mugs to get fired and watch all the grey turn into shades of blue 😍 so much of my art is inextricably connected to nature - I wouldn't have it any other way.

I'm getting back to it by building some bears for a custom bookend set💪. I'm unlocking another skill on my skilltree by learning how to sculpt, being brave enough to cut it in half, then hollow it out and piece it back together. So far its my most stressful skill 😬. #oneskillatatime

🧗‍♀️ Please excuse me while I fall down 800m of very steep mountain and stare at the ground while having breakthroughs on how to structure my business 😅 This felt too important not to share - and hopefully it can inspire others for how to build reconciliation into their systems as well.

I think about how lucky I feel to have been born in Canada literally all the time, especially with the ongoing war in Ukraine 🇺🇦, but "feeling lucky" doesn't do anything for the nations who continue to experience systemic oppression as a result of my ancestors immigrating.

Reconciliation is all of our responsibility, and it feels so good to have the freedom to build my business how I want and put action to my words - even if I can't realistically offer a lot. What I absolutely can do, though, is make sure that if I'm benefiting from nature and freedoms here that some of that benefit gets passed on to the nations as well 🫂.

I was still learning and the handle is very very crooked, and the quality of the mugs that I sell is just a lot higher than this.

I will have a few non-sculptural mugs for sale with this gorgeous folkart white glaze on it for folks who prefer a simpler cup of coffee in the morning. I promise they all have straight handles though! 🙈

First sgraffito is a success so far! 🖋 It's amazing how much carving some lines can change a design. This mug is based off a jellyfish tattoo I designed for myself a few years ago and its so fun and wispy to draw - I love that I have a chance to draw it again!

The real question is, should I make 9 more of these and have a whole batch? 🤔
